Did an afternoon tour with Abel Tasman Sailing as part of an Exodus Explorer Tour. (3 hours)
After walking the Abel Tasman National Park Track from Marahau to Anchorage, we got picked up by Abel Tasman Sailing in one of their catamarans. From Anchorage we hopped on the Abel Tasman Sailing Catamaran, and sailed through to Kaiteriteri with a brief detour to Torrent Bay. After picked up the bus from Marahau with help from Abel Tasman Sailing, we headed back to Motueka for the night.

2018 Sailing Log

Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough.
Steffan Rolfe, Carly, Two Outward Bound Instructors, and 14 Outward Bound Students.
Rain.
Observed the start of a Sailing Session at Outward Bound in Anakiwa. (2 hours).
I observed the start of an Outward Bound Watch’s Sailing Expedition. The involved the Cutter getting setup for the expedition, and starting to sail out into the sound. The Outward Bound instructor ran the watch through a couple of drills associated with tacking upwind away from Anakiwa and maintaining an appropriate distance from the shorelines.

Lake Mahinapua, Westland.

Fine, minimal wind.
Did a sailing lesson at Lake Mahinapua with the Lake Mahinapua Aquatic Club. (2 hours).
Spent a morning at the Lake Mahinapua Aquatic Club sailing on a small Piccolo boat. We learnt how to setup the boat, mast, sheet, and lines, and some theory regarding sailing. Then we spent some time sailing on the lake in extremely light winds.
